(More customer reviews)I couldn't believe my luck when I found these Bassetts licorice allsorts at Amazon. These are my favorite sweets. I grew up in England and would always buy 2 ounces of them whenever I got 3d. They arrived today, only took 4 days!! They are well packaged in 4 seperate bags. They are nice and fresh, and I cannot stop eating them. I feel like I have been deprived for years, but believe me I won't be deprived again now I know I can get them on Amazon. They are exactly as I remember them. What a terrific deal on these sweets, and no shipping charges either. I would highly recommend these to anyone who likes licorice. They are a treat.

Gustaf's Dutch Licorice Coins, 7-Ounce Containers (Pack of 6) Review

(More customer reviews)I like these a lot. They are only slightly salty, with a bit of molasses sweetness, all balanced against a mild licorice flavor. They are medium-hard and very chewy, although they must be kept in an airtight container or they get too hard. Personally I would prefer a stronger licorice flavor, but these are still among my favorites.
Salty licorice is indeed a strange thing for those who haven't tried it before. If you've never had it before, don't start with a case (like what's sold here). And definitely stay away from Double Salt licorice until you've learned whether you like the saltiness.
If you want black licorice but don't want the salty flavor, try "Haribo licorice wheels". Those have more licorice flavor than these coins, and less other flavor. They're a bit sweet and a bit softer.
Note that these coins also come in bags. Buying them that way is slightly more cost-effective, but the tubs might be a little more airtight.

It takes a somewhat acquired taste to appreciate this flavorful, lightly salty licorice with lots of character. If in doubt, first try the "soft drops" or the "sweet and firm cats". Traditional Dutch. Made in Holland.

(More customer reviews)Good tasting, nice firm texture, dutch licorice. Not over powering salty, less so than Zout drops, but much more flavorful. For me, the harder the licorice, the better. So I open all the packages as soon as I get them, dump them in a big box and let them set as long as I can before devouring. On initial purchase and viewing pictures of the product, I was afraid this might be a softer and sweeter licorice - but luckily it wasn't. I was pleasantly surprised with this licorice and now I'm a repeat buyer of this product. Me and my German relatives love this licorice as well as salmiak pastillen, coins, katjes katzen.

They were about an inch in size, and a dark green-black color. Sometimes they'd be loose in a cellophane bag, other times you could find them stacked up, about 12 to a slim box about the size of a large cigarette case, each in a striped silver and black wrapper. I could not get enough of them. Although Callard & Bowser's licorice is long extinct, this is about the closest to the creamy taste of their licorice. Very tasty. I like it a lot. I hope they don't discontinue it. I will be ordering more.

(More customer reviews)Because I love licorice in general, I check out Amazon's selections every once in awhile - and whenever I can get a good bulk price, I try a new type. This was among my most recent buys. I loved these Gustaf's Zaanse Drops- I'm not sure if the inconsistent texture is supposed to be there, but of the gum based drops and diamonds, only a few I've had so far have been soft and easy to chew - in fact, each one I try seems to have a different texture, going from soft and chewy like a gum drop, right up to tough and resistant to the chew (not hard or stale). Now please recognize, it's the tough and resistant texture that I love the most - and to me, the inconsistency of the texture is part of this candy's charm.
I also loved the unique flavor of this one - it's a bit stronger licorice kick than found in most other licorice candies, especially wimpy American types, and there's even a subtle sense of the salt taste that characterizes Dutch licorices, but not in an offensive way (I've had some Dutch licorice that I did not enjoy because of too much salt - this one is hardly noticeable to me).
I'll be ordering this one again - it's a winner.

(More customer reviews)Candy cigarettes are harder to find nowadays - but if you can't get your kids hooked on chewing tobacco with Big League Chew or on cigarettes with the candy variety, why not have them look distinquished as they prepare for pipe smoking?
The style of these pipes is pretty old fashioned, to tell you the truth, so unless your kids have relatives who smoke pipes, they probably won't really get what this thing is. In a nutshell, this is some yummy licorice. If you don't like licorice, you won't like the pipes at all. I would consider these to be treats for adults. This isn't the 1970s - we should know better than to give toy smokes to a kid.
