Created in 1954 when Ferrara Pan decided to introduce a spicy candy to the market. At the time Ferrara production was limited to 200 cases per day. Within three weeks of its launch, orders for Atomic Fireballs were rolling in at the rate of 50,000 cases per day! Approximately 21 pieces per bag.

Nello Ferrara, the son of Salvatore Ferrara, created the famous Atomic FireBall in 1954.At this time in his life he had the idea to develop a spicy candy.When the product was presented to the candy industry, the capacity at Ferrara Pan was limited to 200 cases per day.Within three weeks of sending samples to Ferrara Pan brokers, orders were rolling in at a rate of over 50,000 cases per day, far beyond the capacity Ferrara Pan could handle at that time.

I buy a bag each week for people a t work. Some people just live on these animals. Others just see how long they can suck on them before changing to the other side of the mouth. It looks like people are going around with fat jaws. When the red coating wears off it seems that they just get hotter. And you can hear the tell tale sound of people crunching to get it over with. Then they come back for more.

When I stopped smoking years ago, it was these red hots that satisfied my craving for a cigarette. My two grandsons, age 4 and 8, were staying with me last month for a while and my 8 year old discovered my cache of Ferrara Pan red hots. Turns out he fell in love with them also. They are hard to find in most stores; so I enjoyed ordering them from Amazon.

(More customer reviews)There are two sizes of Atomic fireballs, large and small. I personally prefer the smaller ones as I like to crunch them.
I also found these to be very helpful when I was undergoing treatment for breast cancer. I would have an awful metal taste in my mouth from the chemotherapy and these helped to chase metal mouth away long enough for me to eat something I liked.
I still put them in my pockets for when I go for infusion therapy. It helps to have something to occupy your time.

(More customer reviews)I purchased these for my husbands candy bin in his office at work. In case you wonder how many fireballs are in 16 oz. (like I did) there are 78 fireballs in this bag. I debated on purchasing this 1# bag or the 200 ct. container and went with this size for easy transportation as we live overseas and I'll pack these in my suitcase. The price comparison is negligible, with this 1# bag being slightly cheaper. These are very difficult to find in stores. I searched Costco, super walmart, smart & final, with no luck till I decided to just check and see if Amazon carries them. Bingo. Can't go wrong with Amazon.
