(More customer reviews)I purchased Monin's Violet syrup last winter, when I wanted to make classic cocktails and Creme de Violette liqueur was not yet widely available. It made a delicious, if slightly too-sweet Aviation cocktail. Now that Eric Seed (of Haus Alpenz) has gotten real classic liqueurs back into stores, I prefer the more authentic ingredients. That doesn't mean the Monin Violet has lost favor in my kitchen -- when I make a Violette fizz, I often substitute Monin for plain simple syrup for extra violet kick.
This syrup makes wonderful soda and lemonade. It really pleased my teetotaler guests. If you're shopping for violet flavoring for baking, candy-making or flavoring ice cream, you should search for extract or concentrate. This product isn't designed for concentrated use. (If you DO get violet extract, you can make your own violet syrup. 1 part sugar, 1 part water. Heat over a low flame until the sugar is just dissolved, and you have simple syrup. Once the simple has cooled, you can add your favorite extract drop by drop until you're satisfied with the flavor.)

Cane Syrup - Steen's 100% Pure by ChefShop Review

(More customer reviews)When we visit Louisiana we buy this by the dozens. When we don't visit Louisiana, we order it online.
This is not like molasses in taste but it is like molasses in use. We use this to make gingerbread and it makes a better gingerbread than using molasses or dark corn syrup. We often use this to put on biscuits instead of using honey. When I make candied pecans I use this syrup. My husband prefers this over maple syrup for his pancakes.
It is very thick and the colder it is, the slower it moves. As I said, it doesn't taste like molasses but it does have a bit of the aftertaste the same. It is used in our house interchangably.

You have to kind of learn through trial and error how much syrup to use to get the taste to your liking, but once you're dialed in, it's superb. A bit pricey, but I'll probably buy it again some time as a treat. Don't know if its required, but I keep the in the refrigerator after I open it, and didn't notice any degradation in flavor.

While a bit thin, perhaps, compared to a typical full-sugar syrup, it has no artificial swetener taste to it that some low/no calorie product substitutes have. Besides using it on pancakes, waffles and the like, I've started using it on cereals and other things that I would normally sprinkle sugar on. I was so happy with my original purchase that I ordered a half dozen bottles the next time around.

I noticed a while back that the maple syrup I purchased in the store (even organic) had an "odd" taste. It just didn't taste right. I tried several types but, with the same result.
Then I read a review on here about Vermont having tougher standards for maple syrup. As in something about not allowing other sweeteners or something, don't remember exactly.
