This is my new favorite diaper. My 20-month-old son has always been very difficult to fit. His Fuzzi Bunz were great at first, but they wore out quickly and no size would fit him as he grew taller and skinnier. I switched to Happy Heinys and Mommy's Touch. While the HH's grew scratchy as they pilled, the Mommy's Touch stayed much softer- especially the diapers with the printed patterns. These diapers actually fit, and leaking is no longer a constant problem. While I can't say these diapers are perfect, they are by far the best diapers I've encountered. My son is a super-super-soaker, so I don't think there is a diaper or diaper insert on the planet that can completely contain him (even overnight disposables can't). But at least I'm not constantly changing his pants when he wears the Mommy's Touch. And I have yet to have to deal with a poopy blowout with these diapers (something I could never say about Fuzzi Bunz). I highly recommend these, particularly the printed diapers (just because the fleece seems to stay softer,) to anyone.

I bought 12 of these diapers when I decided to start using cloth diapers on my 16 month old. We have been using them for a week. I really love these diapers. We have had a couple of leaks, but it has been mostly trial and error on my part.
My tips about leaks:
-Make sure the diaper is 100% dry before you use it! They do take a lot of drying time - more than 40 minutes on high in the dryer.
-If you snap the doubler in the front, make sure it does not go to close to the waist of the diaper. This happened today and his urine went right out. Don't know why the doubler was so high up. Maybe it was for a prints and I used it in a solids. I usually use them in the back anyway.
-When you put the diaper on a wiggly baby, make sure the sewn in soaker is smoothed and in proper position.
Other notes:
-I use flushable liners since my son is on table food and is teething. For new moms, this means poo that is not solid... However, the couple of times I skipped the liner and had to clean up the diaper, a bit of toilet paper and a good rinse in the sink took care of it. Or get a diaper sprayer...
-The diapers have come out looking like new after every wash. I've only done a few washes, but so far, no stains or smell.
Drawbacks:
I personally think these will be very bulky for a newborn. But I haven't tried it either. And of course, it would depend on how big your newborn is.
If your baby has chunky thighs you will have to play with the snap settings a bit to keep him/her from getting red elastic marks on his thighs. I hear that Happy Heiny's don't have elastic leg casings and won't leave marks. Haven't tried them yet as they are sized diapers, but it's something to consider.

Happy Heiny's One Size Cloth Diapers

I tried the Happy Heiny's one size, the BumGenius 2.0 one size and the Mommy's Touch one size. I've found the BumGenius to be my clear favorite -- the Happy Heiny seems to leak a little more frequently than the BumGenius -- but they're both superior to the Mommy's Touch.
Besides being slightly more leak-prone, here are my other "beefs" with the Happy Heiny (mostly pretty minor):
1. Tabs don't stay on the laundry tab during the washing/drying, so I'm inevitably pulling them apart from all the other diapers.
2. Tabs are curling slightly at the edges after 2 weeks of use.
3. The snaps on the front to adjust the size of the diaper have a backing on the inside of the diaper that I battle with when trying to stuff the insert into the pocket(again, not a huge deal).
Compared to the BumGenius in particular...
1. I prefer the micro-suede type lining that they have over the fabric used to line the Happy Heiny's.
2. The tabs are smaller and elastic on the BumGenius.
Hope that helps! I know before I bought these diapers, reading the reviews was like reading Swahili -- you just have to have done it to get what I'm talking about, but hopefully you can make some sense of it all!
P.S. The Happy Heiny's are also $1 more expensive and you can't get the free super saving shipping.

Happy Heinys newest product line! Our very own One Size Pocket Diaper. The snap setting allows the diaper to grow from X-small, small, medium to large. Plus a cross over tab is in place to give the diaper a perfect fit. Two microfiber inserts, one small and one large, come with this diaper to make it complete. Our One Size Diapers are made in solid colors and the ever popular Cow Hide print. The Cow Hide print is made of the same material as the solid colors so it is tested to last up to 12 hours with absolutely no wicking for most babies. The One Size Diapers will still feature custom milled fleece. No leg casings, which make better fitting diapers and contain messes better, leaving NO red marks. We often get the question: Should the fleece roll out? Yes it should roll out. Do NOT try to roll the fleece in. This will cause wicking if you try this. Our One Size Reusable Diapers are made to have the fleece roll out so the only thing that touches your child's delicate skin is the soft fleece

Happy Heinys Mini One Size 5-15 lb Review

I am a first time mom and prior to delivery I planned to use cloth diapers exclusively. I stocked up on bumgenius 3.0 as they would be growable with my little one. What I didn't expect was to deliver a 5 lb 15 oz baby--all the diapers I had purchased were enormous!! I bought these Happy Heineys minis and so far they are working great. Definitely worth the price for a preemie sized baby.

These diapers are soft and cozy and easy to use, but in my experience with them they don't hold runny poos very well-- and I mean big explosions that require a full change of clothing--aughhhh! They are not sufficiently absorbent either. I found the BumGenius pocket diapers to be by far supierior. The one size of BumGenius is well...genuis! At $18 a diaper I sure appreciate the fact that I don't have to keep buying new sizes like I did with the Happy Heinys. I have not once had a big poopy explosion which amazes me and my daughter can get through the night without a wet bottom in the morning with the BuMGenius diapers. Not the case with the Happy Heinys.

Fuzzi Bunz Perfect Size Cloth Diaper Review

Fuzzi Bunz Perfect Size Cloth Diaper
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
I've been using fuzzi bunz perfect size diapers since my daughter was a few weeks old and grew big enough to fit into the small size (at about 7-8 lbs). I had agonized over what kind of diaper to use and eventually chose these. I opted for "perfect fit" because I wanted a snugger fit on my petite baby and because I just wasn't sure I would like cloth enough to use it for an entire childhood, so I figured I'd just take care of the first months and then reevaluate. My baby is now 4.5 mo old and getting big enough for the next size up (she has very chubby thighs), so I'm reevaluating, and I'm going to order Fuzzi Bunz again.
First things first: cloth diapers are wonderful. I was skeptical. I thought they'd be a lot of work and a lot of stink, but they're not. I wash diapers every other day. I don't consider it a burden. It's not gross yet, either, as I am still exclusively nursing.
Here's my breakdown of the fuzzi bunz perfect fit for the first 4 months of diapering:
Pros:
Convenience -- I never run out of diapers. Ever. I find laundry much easier than buying disposables all the time. (If you didn't have a washer and dryer, then this might not be true for you.)
Cost -- do an online search for "diaper cost calculator" and put in your numbers. I'm saving about $1000 using fuzzi bunz instead of disposables on this baby (including all laundering cost). Just wait until I reuse them for a second baby! Traditional prefolds would be cheaper yet, but I think this is pretty good for a product that feels expensive up front.
Design -- Snaps are awesome. I prefer them to velcro. I much prefer them to pins. I find these to be quite dummy-proof.
Blowouts -- I've only had two major blowouts the entire four months I've been using these diapers. With disposables, I'd had many more, and I only used them for a couple of weeks!
Style -- The colors are so cute. I love the way these diapers look poofy and colorful on the baby's bottom. They look like those little diaper covers that come with baby dresses
Health -- My baby rarely gets diaper rash in these. When she does, it is generally cured simply by giving her a bath with Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser, For all skin types, 16-Ounce Bottles (Pack of 2) and a fresh diaper afterwords.
Environment -- For the first few weeks of having a baby, we used disposables. Our trash exploded from 1 bag a week to 3. We're back down to one bag a week with cloth. Sure there's laundry, but I think even with that consideration, this has got to be better than producing, shipping, and throwing away so many disposables.
Cons:
Laundry -- You have to be religious about doing your laundry on time. I have 18 diapers which gives me about 48 hours. That's not bad, but you can't just ignore it!
Bulk -- I don't find it difficult to use cloth diapers when out and about, but I do find them bulky. My diaper bag is huge if I go out for the day. Also, baby clothes always stop fitting in the butt/crotch first because they're not build for such big diapers.
Leaking -- These don't leak much, but they do leak sometimes. Most often, it's urine leaking because I've let her go to long without changing or because a bit of the microfiber insert is sticking out and wicking into her clothes.
Breaking -- 1 of my 18 diapers did have a rubber band snap inside of it after the warranty ran out. I haven't fixed it yet because my sewing machine is down, but I will someday.
Drying -- The microfiber inserts soak up a ton of liquid, which is GREAT, but they also take forever to dry and stick to anything cotton like glue with crazy static cling! If you're doing diapers-only in the drier, then it doesn't matter, but I wash my flannel wipes with my diapers. Tips and tricks:
I wash with Charlie's Soap Powder - 2.64 lb Bag (80 Loads). It works very well. I run a cold rinse without anything, then a hot wash with high agitation and a heaping scoop of Charlie's, then a cold rinse. I tumble dry on low heat, or dry in the sun. It has to be a VERY hot and sunny day to dry the microterry inserts in any timely fashion, so plan accordingly.
You're not supposed to use any ointments or salves on the baby's bottom with cloth diapers lest you clog up or coat the diaper with water repellent, oily buildup. Most of the time this is not an issue as your baby isn't as likely to get rash in cloth, but every once in a while it's bound to happen. When my daughter did get a bad diaper rash (after I ate something that didn't agree with her), I cleaned her and slathered her bum with Aquaphor Baby Healing Ointment, 14 Ounces (396 g) (Pack of 2), and I used a flannel wipe (you could also use a rag of any sort) to keep the ointment off the diaper. It seems to have worked well both for her bum and for the diaper.
When these diapers leak, they do it in one of two ways which allows you to troubleshoot a bit. When my baby was small, they'd leak around the thighs. Every time I put the diaper on, I'd slide a finger along the thigh and make sure the elastic was snug, no gaps. This helped a lot. Other times, the microfiber insert slips up the back and seeps urine onto her clothes. To minimize this, just check that the colorful and waterproof outer layer completely contains all of the soft, white parts of the diaper. This will help you avoid leaks. That's it! Sorry this is so long, but I hope it helps some of you other parents decide what type of diaper to buy and how to best manage it if you choose this kind!*UPDATE* I'm still using fuzzy buns on my 1-year-old, and I'm still happy with my choice, however I have changed my washing routine. The Charlie's Soap eventually built up in my diapers, and they started to smell very strongly of urine, even after washing. Charlie's is a good choice if you have SOFT water (you probably do if you live on the West Coast), but it isn't compatible with my hard water. Rather than adjust my local water chemistry with an inline softener or borax in every load, I switched to Country Save (a similar washing powder), and I also use an oxyclean soak once a week before washing as a preventative measure. Diapers are back to smelling nice and clean, and the oxyclean takes out every last stain.

Thirsties Diaper Cover Review

Thirsties Diaper Cover
Average Reviews:

(More customer reviews)
These things are great! I've never had a blow out with them or any leaks. But they do SEEP, and if you're not careful, the can soak EVERYTHING on or near baby.
SEEPAGE: The inside of the diaper is waterproof - awesome. But the nice white edging on the diaper is all cloth. As such, it's very soft on baby's skin, but it is also very absorbent. So if moisture from a wet pre-fold diaper seeps onto the edging, it soaks the edging and then the edging soaks baby's clothes and everything baby has on. And this happens often because of the silly little sizing tag that hangs down in the back of the diaper. The tag will get wet, then the wet seeps onto the edging, then the wet edging seeps onto clothes, blankets, etc. Ugh.
The solution is simple - just cut the tags out. Or it would have been easier for Thirsties to make them with printed in tags so you don't have to guess as to the size when you cut the tags out.
Otherwise:
FIT: great! They fit pre-folds lovely. Very adjustable. I've never seen a blow out.
CLEAN UP: Urine is no problem. I find that nearly every poo requires me to change the cover also and wash it, but the poo stays in the cover and does not leak. Since the covers are cheap, I bought 6 of each size I need. (I do about a load of whites a day, so a few are always being cleaned.)
WASHABILITY: GREAT! these things have gone through the washer so many times and still look fine. they haven't stained for me.
COMFORT: no diaper rash and counting. and baby doesn't have wrinkles on her butt like she gets from disposables
HASSLE: for a cloth diaper, minimal. pre-folds (Well, at least the ones I use) don't "wick" away moisture, so I never leave her in them for long, so I change her diapers more often with the cloth. I choose not travel with these or leave them for sitters, because I feel cloth diapering requires buy-in from the people who are doing the diapering. But as I'm with baby most of the time, I use these almost always. Dad doesn't mind them either.
ECONOMY: great! they hold up, last for a long time with adjustability, and were cheap for a very nice product
LOOKS: they do give baby a big butt, but seriously, it's not like baby has a really svelte figure anyhow. they do require me to dress her a size bigger for a good fit, though.
OVERALL: nice! just fix that stupid tag in the back thing and these would be perfect (but again, you can just cut them out)
****************
**UPDATE**: A year and a half later and we're still using Thirsties.
Our "baby" is now getting closer and closer to being toilet training ready, and we have gone through 4 different sizes of Thirsties diaper covers. I liked Thirsties well enough that we never switched to another brand, which says a lot. A few notes:
*WASHABILITY: These still wash up great. No fading at all to the color. The Velcro holds up wash after wash, even though I wash them with the cloth diaper inserts on the most intense hot-water setting there is to kill germs. It is best to "tuck" the velcro against the tabs provided, to avoid tangling of the diapers in the dyer. Otherwise, the velcro tabs stick to one another.
* All that washing and still they're fine. Out of the 30-some covers I have, 1 had velcro tabs that were not well-sewn on and started to tear free of the stitching upon first washing. But for 1 out of 30, I'm going to take it that it was a fluke.
* LEAKS: Still no leaks - ever. And by leaks I mean blowouts. I put these on snug in the proper size and they hold the inserts in place and poos and pees stay in the diaper. Good job, Thirsties.
* STAINING: I said previously these don't stain. That is not entirely true. The slick inside of the diapers don't stain. The cloth can, especially the white edging around the legs where poop sometimes gets trapped (that's the price you pay for no leaks). Many of my diapers now have a yellowish or brownish tinge to the edging around the legs that no amount of washing will entirely bleach. Oh well. The kiddo wears clothes over them so no one sees.
* SEEPING: Seeping DOES occur. I still find that if the diaper insert soaks, moisture can seep onto the edging and then seep onto clothes. As a newborn to 6 months, this moisture crept up the back tab and onto the back edging. More recently, the seeping happens around the leg openings. It's a function of a) how your baby is lying, sitting, or standing and b) how quickly you change the diapers. But I have found you need to change cloth diapers quickly when they're wet. Thirsties covers don't leak, but if you don't change them in a timely fashion, you will get seepage.
* COMFORT: Cloth diapers give my sensitive skinned baby much less diaper rash than disposables. A lot of it comes from the fact that we notice and change out soiled diapers more quickly with cloth. Thirsties edging is comfy and does not pinch, yet does not leak.
* GREAT PRICE, GREAT INVESTMENT: I always found I needed a few more Thirsties covers than I thought I would, and at $10ish a pop, they're a great deal. I have invested in some $800 worth of cloth diapering supplies that has seen me through from when baby was a few weeks old to toilet-training age. That was about 3 dozen pre-fold inserts in four different sizes and about 10 covers for each size. I easily saved that much on disposables in half a year. Now that baby 2 is on the way, I'm so glad I have supplies that work well. Because Thirsties covers have held up to the use and abuse, I have them ready to go for baby 2.
* A note on what goes inside the Thirsties: I never found diaper inserts that I liked on Amazon. I found pre-fold diapers of old school kind on a site called greenmountaindiapers.com. I mention it because I kept going back there. It's a very wacky-looking site (sorry, the design is just bizarre), but their pre-fold diapers are fantastic. You fold them into thirds, slip them into the Thirsties cover, and just pull them back out when soiled. Follow the care instructions that come with the pre-folds, for sure, but those diapers made excellent inserts for these covers.
Happy Cloth Diapering!
