(More customer reviews)I purchased these on Manager's Special so they certainly could have been stale but they weren't at all - I would caution though that this is a VERY large bag of chocolates so they may become stale by the time you get around to eating them all. A serving is about 1/4 cup and has 200 cals - mostly sugar, of course!
When you first bite into one you don't taste the cayenne at all - just chocolate. The chocolate is certainly better than the kind in regular candy bars but I can't say that it's the most delicious chocolate I've ever had. It seems like a pretty basic gourmet chocolate (if that makes any sense).
The cayenne hits you once the chocolate is gone - it wasn't too spicy for my taste but I'm probably about a medium in my tolerance for spicy foods. A friend of mine that is a self-described wimp when it comes to spice had to have a drink of milk after just one chocolate (though, to be fair, she wasn't forewarned about the cayenne!).
I would definitely recommend these if you want something different in your chocolate and you like a little spice. We gave away bags of these as small treats for Christmas and the reactions were mixed (not surprisingly) so I do think that only a certain percent of the population would enjoy them.
