(More customer reviews)Pontefract Cakes are essentially soft black licorce disks. This candy is wildy popular in Europe, and has been for many generations. The real stuff originated in the UK, and in fact THESE Pontefract Cakes come from the Dunhill/Haribo factory in the UK.
These are better than any black licorice you can easily get in the US, and are usually very difficult to find at a reasonable price.
A 6.6 pound bag for Amazon's price is a great deal.
If you like black licorice (and a true connaisseur would tell you that the only real licorice is black), then you owe it to yourself to try these. They are wonderful!
